New Bedford Woman’s Documentary Film Premiering This Month

New Bedford resident and Cape Verdean filmmaker and artist Iva Brito is eager for the world to see her documentary Pandemic Renaissance – The Art of Surviving C-19 when it premieres in the Whaling City later this month.

Everyone featured in the film is from New Bedford, and it celebrates the city's immigrant and artistic communities and how they survived the COVID-19 pandemic.

Iva Brito and her award-winning co-producer a'Ali DeSousa invite the community to attend its first public viewing.

"The premiere is almost here, and I'm so excited! I haven't seen it," Brito said. "This is an opportunity for the community to come out and celebrate the beauty of our city during that time," Brito said.

The film also takes a look at immigrants and their adversities.

"They say during the hardest times, we learn the most, and I believe that. New Bedford came together in different ways to fight the challenges," she said.

Pandemic Renaissance - The Art of Surviving C-19 was funded by an Art Is Everywhere grant. It premieres Saturday, September 24 at 2 p.m. at the New Bedford Whaling National Historical Park at 33 William Street.

"Our film highlights multicultural and artistic experiences that our community used to see themselves through the pandemic, while also celebrating New Bedford's immigrant community," DeSousa said.
