June and July are busy months at the New Bedford Fishing Heritage Center, located at 38 Bethel Street in New Bedford.

Programs include a talk about oyster farming in the region, the first-ever New Bedford Oysterfest, the return of the Something Fishy Summer Camp, and evening sails onboard the Schooner Ernestina-Morrissey.

Programs Manager Joe Ritter visited Townsquare Sunday to give us a rundown on the summer schedule.

First, an update on the Ernestina-Morrissey Public Sails. On Thursday, Joe Ritter said  there had been a phenomenal response to the June and July sails, with those events being sold out. On Saturday, the Fishing Heritage Center posted on its Facebook page that the August 16 public sail was sold out as well.

On June 13 at 7 p.m., as part of AHA! Night, the Fishing Heritage Center will host "An Evening of Oysters." It will be a discussion on how oysters are grown in our region, led by Dr. Dale Leavitt of Blue Stream Shellfish/West Island Oysters.

On June 15, celebrate the first annual New Bedford Oysterfest from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Cisco Brewers on East Rodney French Boulevard. Enjoy oysters from some of the region’s finest oyster farms, drinks, live music, and more. Tickets ($35) are available exclusively through the FHC website.

On June 20, the FHC will host a program called "The Evolution of the Fishing Schooner." Join Justin Demetri of Maritime Gloucester to discover the story of New England’s most iconic vessel and learn how local schooners began the transition to the Eastern-rig dragger.

In July, the Fishing Heritage Center, working with the New Bedford Whaling National Historical Park, host the Something Fishy Summer Camp.

"This is our 17th year hosting the Something Fishy Summer Camp," Ritter said. "This is an opportunity for children entering the fourth grade to learn about the history of the Port of New Bedford, from the whaling era to the present-day fishing industry."

Students will take part in field trips and science talks, encounter storytellers and more. The camp is free, but is limited to New Bedford students. The school department has distributed applications for students to bring home. Applications are also available on the New Bedford Fishing Heritage Center website.

Hilarious Google Reviews of the New Bedford-Fairhaven Bridge

We've all been there. You think you've made it with a couple of minutes to spare, only to get caught at the red light as the bridge closes. Some of us turn around. Others wait. What most of us don't do, however, is take our anger to the internet — but apparently, several people have, and the results are both hilarious and relatable.

With an average rating of two stars on Google, our love-to-hate-it SouthCoast landmark proves that it's at least slow enough for those stuck waiting to grab their phones and pour out their feelings online. From glowing to glowering, here's what people have to say about the New Bedford-Fairhaven bridge.
