New Bedford Police Arrest Two Teens on Firearms Charges
NEW BEDFORD (WBSM) — A New Bedford 19-year-old and a male juvenile were both arrested on gun charges.
According to New Bedford Police, detectives from the Organized Crime Intelligence Bureau were conducting surveillance on January 23 in the area of Myrtle Street and Weld Street.
At 7:30 p.m., detectives observed two males wearing ski masks with their hands in their sweatshirts. The detectives approached them, and then two males took off on foot.
Police said that as one of the males – later identified as Damian Breton, 19 of New Bedford – was running away from police, he allegedly reached into his waistband and “manipulated a throwing motion toward a backyard on Smith Street.”
After detectives apprehended Breton, police said they located a Smith & Wesson firearm loaded with four rounds of ammunition.

The other male, a 17-year-old juvenile, also allegedly discarded something over a fence while running down Chestnut Street. Police said after he was apprehended, they located a Smith & Wesson firearm loaded with nine rounds.
Both Breton and the juvenile were arrested and charged with carrying a loaded firearm without a license, possession of ammunition without an FID card, and possession of a large-capacity firearm.
Police said the juvenile was transported to the Brockton Department of Youth Services.
Breton was arrested last year for allegedly attempting to steal a moped in the city’s South End.
