New Bedford Police Arrest Two for Allegedly Stealing Moped
NEW BEDFORD (WBSM) — An 18-year-old and a 17-year-old were arrested after allegedly attempting to steal a moped in New Bedford’s South End.
According to New Bedford Police, South End patrol units responded April 7 at about noon to a call for two males wearing ski masks involved in an assault in the area of the parking lot of the Seabra supermarket.
Officers arrived and were informed the owner of a moped had witnessed two males attempting to steal it. Police said the man confronted them and a brief struggle ensued, during which they threatened to shoot him.
Police said the two males made their way out of the plaza, where an officer saw them and attempted to stop them. They fled and crashed the moped at the intersection of Frank Street and Hemlock Street before then taking off on foot.
Sergeant Bryan Safioleas and Officer Patrick Kustka then apprehended both suspects shortly thereafter in the area of Hemlock Street and Rockdale Avenue.
Both were taken into custody and charged with masked armed robbery. The 18-year-old was identified as Damian Breton of New Bedford. The other was a 17-year-old juvenile.
