New Bedford Police arrested a 50 year old man early Wednesday morning in connection with the theft of copper piping in two homes on the 600 block of County Street. A 73 year old resident of one of the homes called police about her lack of water and a break in progress. Police checked the cellar of the home and found a large amount of copper piping had been broken off and water spilling in the basement. They also found a canvas bag with pliers and screwdrivers and hiding behind an oil tank was the suspect, identified as Kevin Spooner, with no permanent address. Police also discovered that Spooner broke into a vacant house next door where he took more piping. He is charged with armed burglary, breaking and entering in the night time with intent to commit a  felony, possesion of burglary tools and malicious destruction of property.
