Despite the brutal winter and a tricky forecast for Sunday, city officials are moving ahead with the 38th Annual New Bedford Half-Marathon.

Mayor Jon Mitchell is expecting thousands of runners to take part.

The race is sponsored by the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick. It beings at 11am sharp on Pleasant Street downtown.

Runners will travel through dozens of neighborhoods in the city before completing the 13-1/2 mile course.

Police are reminding residents that the race course will be closed to motor vehicles from 11am to about 2pm on Sunday, so if you need to travel, leave early or find alternate routes.

WBSM will provide live coverage of the Half Marathon beginning at 10:50.
