Fall River Police Arrest Two in Massive City Drug Bust
FALL RIVER — Two Fall River men have been arrested and $28,000 in cash and more than five and a half kilos of cocaine seized in a large-scale drug bust by a state police narcotics unit.
Authorities also seized two illegal guns in the Monday operation, according to the Bristol County District Attorney's Office.
The D.A.'s office said police arrested 60-year-old Daniel Ferrer and 73-year-old Santos Amezquita while searching three Fall River apartments, one at 31 Oxford St. and two at 130 High St., on Monday.
State troopers assigned to the Bristol D.A.'s office investigated the case along with Dartmouth police, the Bristol County Sheriff's Office, Fall River police, state police gang unit, Newport, R.I. police, and the federal Drug Enforcement Agency.
During the search, officers allegedly found and seized over 5.6 kilograms of suspected cocaine and more than $28,000 in cash as well as a .380 Walter pistol, a 9mm Luger pistol, and several boxes of ammunition.
The men are charged with cocaine trafficking, possessing an illegal firearm while committing a felony, improperly storing a firearm, illegal possession of ammunition, and conspiracy.
They are being held pending a dangerousness hearing on Feb. 6.
"I’m very pleased at the joint effort of our state police narcotics unit and other law enforcement agencies who worked together during the investigation, which resulted in a significant seizure of cocaine, illegal guns and a large amount of cash," Bristol District Attorney Thomas Quinn said.
