Martha’s Vineyard Man Robs Falmouth Bank of $20,000
BOSTON (WBSM) — A Martha's Vineyard man pleaded guilty today to an armed robbery of over $20,000 from a Falmouth bank.
Petar Petyoshin, 40, was charged in July for armed bank robbery and is scheduled for sentencing on January 24, 2024.
On April 8, Petyoshin departed Martha’s Vineyard on a Steamship Authority Vessel and arrived at Woods Hole in Falmouth at 7 a.m. Reports say that at approximately 8:58 a.m. Petyoshin then entered a Rockland Trust bank within the town.
Upon entering, Petyoshin allegedly placed a bomb on the teller counter, zip-tied the individuals, and pointed a firearm at customers allegedly telling a bank employee “I’m robbing you.”
According to reports, Petyoshin robbed over $20,000 in cash then allegedly fled the scene in a bank customer's vehicle after taking their keys. Police say he then boarded a 1:15 p.m. ferry back to Martha's Vineyard.
Petyoshin was also arrested and charged in connection with the robbery on May 23 after police searched his residence in Edgartown, Massachusetts, and recovered thousands of dollars in cash that was bundled together in Rockland Trust bands.
In their recovery, police also found zip ties and clothing that Petyoshin was seen wearing on surveillance. Fifty-seven firearms and a large quantity of ammunition were also captured during the search.
During the investigation police also determined that the Facebook page for Petyoshin’s clothing store, Dapper Martha’s Vineyard, displayed photos of the same jacket, sunglasses, and wig he wore during the bank robbery.
Petyoshin has a history of criminal offenses, including charges of armed and masked robbery with a firearm, making a bomb threat, carjacking, larceny over $1,200, and seven counts of kidnapping
Petyoshin’s current charges provide a sentence of up to 25 years in prison, up to five years of supervised release, and a fine of $250,000.
