EDGARTOWN — A 40-year-old Martha's Vineyard man has been arrested in connection to an armed bank robbery on Cape Cod earlier this spring.

The Cape & Islands District Attorney's office said state and local police arrested Petar Petyoshin of Edgartown for his role in the armed robbery of the Rockland Trust Bank on Davis Straits in Falmouth on April 8.

Petyoshin is charged with armed and masked robbery with a firearm, making a bomb threat, carjacking, larceny over $1,200, and seven counts of kidnapping.

According to the D.A.'s office, members of the state police Special Tactical Operations Team arrested Petyoshin along with members of the Falmouth, Edgartown, and Oak Bluffs police departments.

His arrest comes more than a month after the robbery, following an investigation by state and Falmouth police along with the FBI.

Authorities had been searching for the robbery suspect since the Saturday morning in April when he allegedly brandished a handgun and claimed to have a bomb at the bank branch.

After demanding cash from the teller, the suspect allegedly fled in a stolen vehicle, which was later found on the Teaticket Highway/Route 28.

Petyoshin is set to be arraigned today at Falmouth District Court, prosecutors say.

No further information on the suspect or the case has been released.
