Inside Barack Obama’s Martha’s Vineyard Birthday Celebration with NBA Stars

Former President Barack Obama was in Massachusetts last week to celebrate his 65th birthday. To mark the occasion, Obama teed up with NBA All-Star Steph Curry of the Golden State Warriors. Boston Celtics star forward Jayson Tatum played with another group several holes ahead of Obama.

Obama, whose birthday was Tuesday, August 4, has always fancied himself quite the basketball player, so his choice of company on the links should come as no surprise.

The Cape Cod Times reported the former chief executive and his very tall companion played a round of golf at Vineyard Golf Club in Edgartown on Martha's Vineyard. The paper said actor Don Cheadle was also on the course that day.

The Obamas' Connection to Martha's Vineyard

The Obamas, who own a mansion on the island, have visited often since their time at the White House.

While it's not clear if former First Lady Michelle Obama accompanied her husband to the island for his birthday celebration, TMZ reported she was "shakin' her hips and givin' hugs" during a solo trip to the Vineyard in mid-July.

The Obamas purchased a home on 30 acres on the "coastal perimeter of Edgartown" in 2019, according to the Vineyard Gazette. If you are keeping score, the Obama estate has only eight bathrooms.

Obama's Well-Documented Love for Golf

When "44" was president, CNN reported, "Golf is Obama's favored activity on vacation. He plays nearly every day during his annual island getaways on Martha's Vineyard and in Hawaii."

Obama once mentioned to the Golf Channel that he has an "honest 13" handicap, similar to most other presidents.

It remains unclear how long the former president stayed in Massachusetts or what other activities he participated in to mark his birthday.
