The Charles R. Washburn Memorial Trust at 30 Washburn Lane in Marion might be the prettiest site ever for a Farmers Market. The 10-acre park site will host one every Tuesday from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. from May 27 through October 7.

Meredith Mattson-Days serves as president of the Trust. She spoke to Townsquare Sunday this week by phone, and talked about the Trust and the Farmers Market, which starts this Tuesday.

According to the Washburn Trust website, the nonprofit was created in 1955 to preserve open space and provide land for recreation, education and entertainment for the surrounding community.

Why a Farmers Market?

"I looked at this land and thought we needed another purpose for people to come in and enjoy the site and see how wonderful it is," Mattson-Days said.

"I thought a farmers market might be a great way to raise money for upkeep of the park, bring people together, and help out local farmers, artisans and bakers in the area," she said.

Mattson-Days has 24 vendors lined up for this summer, including musicians who will perform while the farmers market is open. There will also be activities for children and food trucks. Admission is free.

The Trust is funded with private donations and rentals. For more information, check out the Washburn Trust website.

The Trust also plays host to the Marion Horse Show to be held this year on July 6 at 8 a.m. at Washburn Park in Marion. Mattson-Days said it might be the oldest horse show of its kind in the Commonwealth.
