For the fourth straight year, 13-year-old Davin Alves of Marion is proving that you’re never too young to change lives.

What started as a simple act of kindness has grown into a powerful holiday tradition, one that continues to put food on the tables of local families when they need it most.

With the rising cost of groceries, rent, and everyday necessities stretching families thinner than ever, Davin is stepping up once again with his 4th Annual Holiday Food Drive Raffle, setting his sights on an ambitious new goal: $6,000 raised for local hunger relief, topping last year’s incredible $5,580 success.

This young man isn’t slowing down. He’s leveling up.

Fighting Hunger, One Raffle Ticket at a Time

With the full support of his mom, Kathylee Alves, Davin’s efforts directly benefit two vital local organizations: United Way of Greater New Bedford and Damien’s Place Food Pantry. Every single dollar raised through the raffle is used strictly to purchase food for families right here on the SouthCoast.

“To know that all of this goes directly back into the community—that’s what keeps Davin motivated year after year,” Kathylee said.

Raffle tickets are just $5 each, but for those looking to stretch their impact even further, there are several bundle options:

  • 3 tickets for $10
  • 7 tickets for $20
  • 20 tickets for $50

Tickets can be purchased via email at brinx1@verizon.net or by messaging Kathylee on Facebook.

The Power of a Kid Who Simply Cares

What makes Davin’s story so special isn’t just the money raised. It’s the heart behind it. In a world where it’s easy to look the other way, this Marion teen keeps showing us what it looks like to lean in instead. Year after year, he pours himself into this mission because he genuinely wants to help.

Families are struggling more now than ever. Food costs are soaring. Heating bills are brutal. The pressure is real for so many households. When the drive wraps, the family will once again share photos of the massive food donation haul that's become an annual tradition.

Big Prizes, Bigger Purpose

The holiday raffle will be drawn live on Facebook on December 17 at 5 p.m., and this year’s prize lineup is stacked:

  • Christmas wreath with $200 in scratch tickets
  • Three Yankee Candle gift sets
  • Asteroids 8-in-1 Arcade Gaming System
  • Super Pac-Man 10-in-1 Arcade Gaming System
  • $500 Visa gift card (sponsored by the Ferreira family)
  • $200 Visa gift card (sponsored by Souza Family Orthodontics)
  • $150 Visa gift card (sponsored by South Coast Smiles)
  • $100 Visa gift card (sponsored by Compulsive Salon)
  • Four $50 Kool Kone gift certificates (sponsored by Tom & Gail Strom)

Every ticket purchased fuels food on a family’s table this holiday season.

A Reminder of What the Holidays Are Really About

In a season that’s often about shopping lists and wrapped gifts, Davin’s annual food drive continues to cut straight to the heart of what the holidays should be about: taking care of one another.

He’s not just chasing a dollar amount this year, he’s feeding hope, and if the community does what it always does, there’s a very real chance Davin smashes that $6,000 goal right out of the park.
