Maplecroft, Lizzie Borden’s ‘Other House,’ Sold to B&B Owners
FALL RIVER — We may never find out exactly who killed Andrew and Abby Borden back on August 4, 1892, but we finally know who the new owner of Lizzie Borden’s beloved Maplecroft will be.
The Herald News is reporting that Donald Woods has signed a purchase and sale agreement to buy the 14-room mansion for less than the $699,000 asking price.
Woods is also the owner of the infamous house at 92 Second Street where the Borden murders took place. He and partner Lee-ann Wilber have owned and operated the Lizzie Borden Bed & Breakfast since 2004.
Lizzie Borden was the only person ever brought to trial for the murders of her father Andrew and stepmother Abby, but she was acquitted of all charges. Following the trial, she and her older sister Emma purchased and moved to Maplecroft in September of 1893.
And yes, Lizzie died in the house in 1927, so you know it’s probably just as haunted as the B&B.
Woods is purchasing the home at 306 French Street from current owner Kristee Bates, a Texas resident who purchased Maplecroft in 2014 for $500,000, and has invested about $400,000 in its restoration. She originally put the house on the market in September for $849,900, but had dropped the price significantly over the past few months.
Woods told The Herald News there’s still some work to be done, but that Maplecroft could open as a B&B as soon as February.
