We recently reported that the Xfinity Center in Mansfield, Massachusetts, plans "big changes" for the 2026 season. According to the report, "major renovations are underway" in time for the venue's 40th anniversary next year.

Some of us long-in-the-tooth types might recall the Xfinity Center as Great Woods when the place first opened in 1986. It was later renamed the Tweeter Center, and eventually the Xfinity Center.

The venue will continue to accommodate 19,900 seats, though some will be removable. The ceiling is being replaced and redesigned with acoustics in mind.

"Xfinity Center also plans to offer special areas for those with sensory needs, including quiet spaces and headphone zones," according to the report.

Boston.com reported it is "purely coincidental that the renovations, which have been in the planning stages for years, will align with the venue's 40th anniversary."

The renovations, which began in October, are expected to be completed by May, when Xfinity Center kicks off the 2026 season.

Here's What Xfinity Center Really Needs to Do

Some of my recommendations for improvements at Xfinity include special seating for those who tailgate in the parking lot all afternoon before the show, thus limiting exposure to the kids who drink too much and then vomit all over themselves and others once they enter the venue.

Better yet, ban intoxicated folks from entering altogether. The pot smokers are fine, since they don't projectile vomit all over the place.

Next, attract better-quality food vendors, and add more bathrooms. It's a long way to Tipperary when you've gotta pee.

Finally, fix the parking. Getting in and out of the Xfinity Center property is challenging. Even worse is trying to find the car after the show. Install more lighting and better parking lot signage.

Other than that, I'm a happy camper.
