WAREHAM — An East Wareham man has been charged with drunk driving for the fourth time after nearly causing a head-on collision with a police cruiser in the town.

Wareham Police say that on Friday at about 9:15 p.m., Officers Stephen Harrison and Aaron Pacheco were on patrol in the White Island area as part of a Federal Grant program, when Officer Pacheco was forced to swerve off of the roadway to prevent a head-on collision with a vehicle traveling in the wrong direction of the same lane.

An accident was barely averted; however the offending vehicle, operated by 55-year-old Ronald Deshiro Jr., of 165 Lake Avenue in East Wareham, continued down Barker Road. Officer Pacheco turned the cruiser around and pursued Deshiro, who pulled over and stopped on Morrison Street.

Following an investigation, Deshiro was placed under arrest and transported to police headquarters for processing. Deshiro is scheduled to appear in Wareham District Court on Monday to face charges of operating under the influence of liquor, fourth offense; negligent operation of a motor vehicle; and a marked lanes violation.
