UPDATE: The 19-year-old man killed in the crash has been identified as Jack Quindley of Carver.

WAREHAM — A 19-year-old Carver man has died after he was struck by another vehicle on the side of I-195 in Wareham after exiting his own vehicle following a crash into a guardrail.

At approximately 6:34 a.m. this morning, troopers from the State Police Bourne Barracks responded to reports of a serious injury crash on I-195 eastbound before Exit 21 in Wareham.

Massachusetts State Police say a preliminary investigation revealed that a 2000 Nissan Xterra was traveling east, driven by a 19-year-old man, with an 18-year-old man as a passenger. Both men are from Carver. For reasons still under investigation, the vehicle left the roadway, striking the guardrail off the left side of the roadway. Both men exited the vehicle to inspect the damage to the vehicle, which was now disabled partially in the left travel lane. A 2008 BMW, driven by a 51-year-old man from Hyannis, then struck the Nissan and the 19-year-old man.

All three men were transported to Tobey Hospital. The 19-year-old driver of the Nissan was determined to the deceased as a result of injuries sustained from being struck. The other two men sustained minor injuries.

The incident remains under investigation. We will update this story as more information becomes available.
