Legendary Wareham Restaurant Permanently Closes

There is shocking news to report out of Wareham.

In what is becoming an all-too-common occurrence, another legendary restaurant is closing on the SouthCoast. We were stunned to learn Monday morning at Fun 107 that Lindsey's Family Restaurant in Wareham has closed its doors permanently.

According to Lindsey's owner Cheri Lindsey, a "lack of staffing, increased wages, increasing food cost and a decrease in consumer spending" led the longtime owner to "this startling reality."

Lindsey's was a restaurant that was all about top quality. It was a restaurant where people would celebrate birthdays and graduations. In fact, when my family came down for the birth of my first baby, I snuck out to dinner with them at Lindsey's as we were waiting for my wife to kick into labor.

"Never in my life would I have thought this would be how things would end – so abruptly with no closure for myself, my family, my employees or my customers," Cheri Lindsey told Fun 107. "At the end of the day, we are not shutting down because the quality of our food declined. We are not shutting down because people did not want to come to eat here anymore, as there were often lines out the door. We are shutting down because we could not physically staff our restaurant to be open seven days a week. This fact has left me shocked, devastated and confused."

The news about Lindsey's is shocking because it's a place we always expected to be around. This particular closing stings so much because customers weren't able to have one last hurrah before the doors shut. If I had known I had eaten my last Lindsey's onion ring, I definitely would have enjoyed it more.

The suddenness of the closing does not sit well with Cheri Lindsey, either.

"It is something that I am going to have to work through in the months and years to come. My heart is broken."

If it is any consolation, Cheri, so is ours.
