Secretary of State John Kerry is running into complications as he works to build a coalition to fight the militants from the Islamic State group.

France is all in, but would like to invite Iran. Kerry says the U.S. hasn't been asked about including Iran, but adds ``it would not be appropriate'' given the ``many other issues'' the West has with Tehran. Those issues include Tehran's support for Syrian President Bashar Assad in his three-year war against rebels that are trying to oust him from power.

Kerry says as many as 40 countries have offered various levels of support for the fight against the Islamic State.

Meanwhile, House Speaker John Boehner is telling Iraq's prime minister that the House will ensure that his new government has all the U.S. support that it needs to combat Islamic militants. Boehner made the comments in a letter to Haider al-Abadi on Friday.
