Summer season is upon us and that means it's time to hit the waterways of Southeastern Massachusetts by kayak.

Southeastern Massachusetts has many beautiful rivers and streams, the best of which cannot be seen from the road but can be thoroughly enjoyed by kayak.  From late spring to mid-fall you can cruise along at your own speed taking in nature as only you can see it from the water. Enjoy incredible wildlife and vegetation for as far as the eye can see.  There is simply beauty around every river bend. Pack a lunch and enjoy a picnic on a river bank along the way.

My wife and I began kayaking several years ago and go most weekends during the season. It is a great and inexpensive way for families and friends to spend time together while enjoying all that nature has to offer.

Some of our favorite local kayaking locations include: The Shingle Island River in Dartmouth, The Nemasket which runs from Lakeville to Middleborough, The Taunton River and Lake Sabbatia and The Snake River in Taunton.

Kayaks can be purchased at most area sporting stores.  Some places, such as Lincoln Woods in Lincoln, Rhode Island rent them by the hour. Charting destinations is easy.  Search for websites or YouTube videos.  Google Earth is a great source for planning where you might want to enter and exit the waterway and where the best place is to park your vehicle.

Looking for something new and different to do this summer?  Go kayaking!
