The Justice Department is taking the city of Ferguson, Missouri to court over civil rights violations.

The lawsuit accuses the Ferguson justice system of engaging in practices that deprive people of their constitutionally protected rights.

Attorney General Loretta Lynch says their investigation found that those practices were driven in part by racial bias.

The lawsuit comes a day after the Ferguson City Council rejected a proposed deal with the Justice Department for justice system reforms.

Ferguson came into the spotlight after the police shooting of Michael Brown in August 2014.  (Metro Networks Inc.)
