For the first time in 90 years, Somerset Berkley and Case high schools will not face off against each other on Thanksgiving morning. Instead, Somerset Berkley will play Providence Central High School. Case's new opponent will be a more manageable Atlantis Charter School/Westport.

The Super Bowl-bound Fairhaven Blue Devils have a grudge match against the Dartmouth Indians. Fairhaven will look to grab a win against their Thanksgiving foe while keeping everyone on the roster healthy for the main course, which will take place on Thursday, Nov. 30, at 3 p.m.

Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday because of the three F's: family, food and football – and not necessarily in that order. There's no better Massachusetts Thanksgiving tradition than high school football. It's a perfect storm of returning alumni, socializing and players competing in their final games.

Most high school football players will never play in games watched by bigger crowds.  Most seniors will never play the game of football, competitively, ever again. The finality of it all puts a lump in my throat to this day.

While a handful of games are played on Wednesday night, the lion's share of games comes while the turkey is in the oven on Thanksgiving morning.

Here is a list of high school football games, times and locations for Thanksgiving weekend.  In addition to the usual Wednesday night appetizer of Old Colony and Tri-County, this year, the night before Thanksgiving will also feature the first Somerset Berkley holiday rivalry with Providence Central High School.
