House Judiciary Slams Boston Sanctuary Policies After ICE Detainer Denial Records Surface
Maura Healey's Massachusetts is under fire from the U.S. House Judiciary Committee for providing sanctuary and protection to illegal immigrants, many of whom are dangerous individuals.
Healey told me during an August interview that ICE is a "rogue agency." She later signed the PROTECT Act into law that provides protections to illegal immigrants in Massachusetts.
"Because of Massachusetts's sanctuary policies, dangerous and violent offenders – including child abusers, armed robbers, and drug traffickers – have been bailed out and released back into Massachusetts society, free to reoffend with little to no consequences," according to the committee's recent report, "Boston: The Dangerous Consequences of Sanctuary Policies."

The committee, chaired by Republican Rep. Jim Jordan of Ohio, says in its report, "Criminal aliens know that they can operate with impunity in Massachusetts."

The report is particularly critical of sanctuary city Boston, which it says "has obstructed federal law enforcement with its sanctuary policies for years."
House Judiciary Committee Findings on Boston Detainers
"Despite Boston's attempts to keep the extent of its pro-criminal alien policies shrouded in secrecy, data provided to the Committee and subcommittee reveal that in 2026 alone, the Boston Police Department (BPD) has received 54 (ICE) detainers and has not honored one. Since 2021, BPD has not transferred a single foreign national criminal to ICE custody based off an ICE detainer," the report states.
Boston has "attracted and harbored" dangerous criminals from around the world, according to the report, including places such as Colombia, Haiti, the Dominican Republic, Brazil, Mexico, Ecuador, China, Morocco, and Venezuela.

Political Clash Between Federal Officials and Local Leadership
The committee cited comments last year from Boston Mayor Michelle Wu, in which she referred to ICE agents as neo-Nazis.
"This dangerous rhetoric and Boston's sanctuary policies intentionally prevent ICE from performing its lawful immigration enforcement duties in the city of Boston, which ultimately exposes Boston to more crime and lawlessness," the committee said.
Impact of State Sanctuary Laws on Federal Immigration Enforcement
This is not the first time Healey and Wu have clashed with immigration officials. After conducting several high-profile immigration raids in Massachusetts, Border Czar Tom Homan said Healey and Wu should "be ashamed" of their immigration policies.
