It's safe to say that the Trump Administration's border czar Tom Homan and Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey have different takes on the hot-button issue of illegal immigration. The pair have clashed in the media on multiple occasions.

Based on comments Homan made during a recent appearance on Fox News Channel's Ingraham Angle, the simmering feud is heating up.

Fatal Trooper Crash Sparks National Debate

The latest dust-up follows the recent death of Pennsylvania State Trooper Michael Pahira, who was killed when a semi-truck crashed into him while he was inspecting another commercial vehicle.

The Department of Homeland Security said the driver of the semi that struck Pahira was Michael Bon, "an illegal alien from Haiti, who was arrested and charged with vehicular homicide and involuntary manslaughter."

DHS said the 33-year-old Bon "was issued his Commercial Driver's License (CDL) by the state of Massachusetts." Bon was living illegally in Brockton.

Homan Criticizes Massachusetts Driver's License Policies

Homan blasted Healey for allowing illegal immigrants to obtain a driver's license, saying Healey "proves every day she is not smart." Restricted licenses are issued to illegal immigrants under a law enacted by the Massachusetts Legislature and confirmed by voters in a statewide ballot initiative.

Homan told host Laura Ingraham, "When you normalize illegal immigration and you are giving driver's licenses, all these benefits just draw more people to those sanctuary states."

Homan said despite denials from Healey, Massachusetts is a sanctuary state. "She'll be on TV saying she's not a sanctuary state," he said. "She said it 100 times when, in fact, she is."

Ingraham called Healey "passionate for illegals to be on our roads," and said she is "the worst on immigration."

ICE Resources to Target Massachusetts Sanctuary Cities

Healey and Boston Mayor Michelle Wu, who has also tangled with Homan, had better be ready, because Homan is promising more ICE action in Massachusetts. "That's where we're gonna concentrate our resources on sanctuary cities," he said.

ABC 6 Action News reported that funeral services were held for the 44-year-old Trooper Pahira in Butler Township, Pennsylvania, on Wednesday, July 8, 2026.
