Holy Moly, There’s a New Donut Shop for You to Try in 2020

Sweet Sweet Donuts is a passion project for the owner, Micaela Pope. Cooking and baking with her Yia Yia (Greek for grandmother) was a beloved pastime growing up. One of her favorite things to make with her was fried dough as an after-school snack. That would later lead to opening up her own business in Onset.

“A couple of years ago, I started making “Doggy Donuts” to support the Cape Cod K9 relief fund and all of my proceeds went to them. They assist in paying for retired K9s health costs, medicine, and food. I decided that I wanted to do something with not only my love for eating donuts but cooking them as well. That's when I asked Trevor Watson of Trevors Designs about what he thought about doing donuts and coffee at his cozy, beautiful, inviting gallery. He was all for it and so the magic began." - Micaela Pope

Pope initially thought it would just be a couple of friends and locals coming in, but it soon became something much more. Her friend Chelsie started helping her work the counter and it turned into a business partnership. The two women run the shop as a scratch kitchen, where everything is made by hand, rolled, hand-cut, and decorated.

“A lot of love goes into these donuts. We serve up a varying selection of Brioche donut creations, cinnamon rolls and scones each Saturday, starting at 8 am until we sell out.” - Micaela Pope

Pope has high hopes for Sweet Sweet Donuts and her biggest motivation is to make it the new hub for the community to reconnect.

“We really want it to be a place where the community can come and hang out, even if you don't know each other. We want to bring back that connection and conversation between people. It’s a family atmosphere.” - Micaela Pope

Sweet Sweet Donuts offers a 20% discount to police, fire, military, nurses, and doctors in order to give back to the people who take care of us every single day. They also run “Donuts for a Cause” once a month where their net proceeds from donut sales go to the cause that they choose.

While the shop is only open on Saturday mornings, custom orders are available for pick up on Sunday mornings with a 24-hour notice. You can even place an order for birthday parties and weddings.

Personally, I am very intrigued by this pizza donut. It is a collaboration with Mumma Mary's Cafe and uses her in-house sauce and cheese. I love pizza and donuts but never would have that of combining the two into one. Definitely on my list when I make the trip.

Sweet Sweet Donuts opened in November of 2019 and is located within Trevor’s Gallery and Wine Bar at 144 Onset Ave.
