Crews will be working on Route 25 between Bourne and Wareham this week as part of a statewide push to convert highway exit numbers to a milepost-based numbering system.

Workers will be changing the exit signs from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. on Rt. 25 eastbound and westbound starting November 15, the Massachusetts Department of Transportation announced.

After crews complete work on Route 25 between Bourne and Wareham, the contractor will move on to state Route 3 between Braintree and Bourne. MassDOT will keep existing, “old” exit number signs at key locations for a minimum of two years. MassDOT has said the change is required by the Federal Highway Administration.

MassDOT launched the exit renumbering installations on October 18. The Route 140 corridor conversion and the I-195 conversion has been completed.
