Junior Achievement of Southeastern Massachusetts is a regional non-profit organization whose mission is to inspire and prepare young people to succeed in the global economy. JA was formed in New Bedford in 1948. The New Bedford chapter later merged with chapters in Taunton, Fall River and Attleboro in 1999 to become Junior Achievement of Southeastern Massachusetts.

Regional Education Director Marlaina Trepanier stopped by Townsquare Sunday this week to discuss what JA does and how the community can get involved.

Trepanier said Junior Achievement volunteers have returned to area classrooms this year, after conducting virtual lessons last year because of COVID-19.

JA is partnering with many school districts in our region, sending volunteers who come from the business community or JA alumni into local schools for free. Those volunteers use age-appropriate lessons on business, and the economy, to help students get ready for the future. There are also after-school sessions as well.
