Join the Fun at Fairhaven’s Homecoming Day Fair
Fairhaven's Homecoming Day Fair is a small-town event that's turned into a very big deal.
Thousands of area residents visit Fairhaven every year in June to browse craft displays, enjoy paintings by local artists, munch on delicious food, and take in free entertainment outside Town Hall.
Homecoming Day 2024 is happening Saturday, June 29 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Center Street area of town.
The Fairhaven Improvement Association sponsors the event, and Barbara Acksen chairs the Homecoming Committee. She stopped by Townsquare Sunday to run down the Homecoming Day schedule.
"We have about 150 vendors and expect about 10,000 visitors next Saturday," Acksen said. "There's a lot of not-so-nice things going on in the world, so this in an opportunity for people to take part in a nice event happening right here."
The free entertainment outside Town Hall will begin with folk singer Scott Parker, followed by Sharon Jensen and her student-singers. Other entertainers include Four Quarters, a jazz group, Pumpkin Head Ted, singer Eddie Dillon, and original music group Pebbles of Rain.
An art show will be located on the lawn of the Unitarian Church, featuring the work of nine new artists. Also, tours of the old Fairhaven High School building (featured in the film The Holdovers) will be held again this year, along with many activities for children.
"I just love seeing happy people having a great time," Acksen said. "People are hugging each other that they haven't seen for awhile, I think that's just a wonderful thing."
