Two newcomers have won seats on the Acushnet School Committee during Monday's Annual Town Election..

The unofficial tally Monday night showed educator Christopher Green defeating incumbent John Howcroft by 54 votes in what was a low-turnout election.

Green is a first-time candidate who is a former Principal at the Ford Middle School. Green said he was very happy with the victory. He believes voters and parents wanted more communication from the School Committee, something he says they weren't getting. Green's victory earned him a three year seat on the board.

Also, Sarah Ann Gomes was declared the winner in the race for a one-year, unexpired term on the School Board. The President of the Acushnet PTO edged incumbent Dr. Mary Louise Francis by five votes.

Selectman Kevin Gaspar Sr. was unopposed in his bid for re-election.
