
Freetown Police Arrest Assonet Man for Rape and Other Charges
FREETOWN (WBSM) — Police in Freetown have arrested an Assonet man on rape, assault and intimidation charges.
According to police, Brendan D. Nunes, 23, of Assonet was arrested by the department on Friday, October 11 after an investigation by Massachusetts State Police Troop D detectives in collaboration with Freetown Police detectives Shane Kelley and Christopher Medeiros.
Police said that following the investigation, a warrant was issued for Nunes’ arrest.
Nunes allegedly committed several offenses, police said, including rape, drugging for sexual intercourse, strangulation/suffocation, intimidation of a witness, and three counts of assault and battery.
He was arrested and taken to the Bristol County House of Correction in Dartmouth, where he was held on $50,000 cash bail.
Nunes is scheduled to be arraigned today in Fall River District Court.
“Our officers, working closely with the Massachusetts State Police, demonstrated strong investigative work that led to this arrest,” Freetown Police Chief Scott M. Rose. “This case reflects our commitment to thoroughly investigating serious crimes and holding offenders accountable.”
