The New Bedford Police Union Cycling Team is the third titleholder in our First Responder of the Month program.

WBSM along with our sponsor, Sam Karam and Sons, named the New Bedford Police Union Cycling Team the First Responder of the Month for May of 2019. They received a nomination for serving their community in a big way.

Here is the nomination that Officer Troy Spirlet and the whole cycling team received in recognition for their 300-mile ride:

"Troy, along with other police officers from the New Bedford Police Department raised funds and rode over 300 + miles in 4 days last week for the Annual Police Unity Tour that leads up to National Police Week. The primary purpose of the Police Unity Tour is to raise awareness of Law Enforcement Officers who have died in the line of duty. Thousands of riders converged in Washington on Sunday to signify the beginning of National Police Week. During the week, 143 police officers who were killed in the line of duty in America in 2018 will be honored inclusive of Sean Gannon. This team should be recognized for their efforts." - Anonymous

Special thanks to Chief Joe Cordeiro, Lieutenant Rodriguez, and Captain Paul DaCosta for helping us organize the surprise visit!
