Fall River Police Release Video of Person Saved From Suicide Attempt
FALL RIVER (WBSM) — Fall River Police have released a video of the rescue of a person who apparently attempted to commit suicide by jumping into the water near Battleship Cove Tuesday night.
According to a police Facebook post, patrol officers reported to the area at about 6:45 p.m. on February 4 for a report of a male who had jumped in the water. Officers were able to locate him lying on the rocks in the water just behind the visitor’s center at Heritage Park.
Police said the male was showing signs of hypothermia.

In order to pull him to safety, Sgt. Derek Oagles jumped down from the boardwalk and tied a rope around the male’s torso. Officers on the boardwalk, as well as two civilians, helped pull the person to safety.
“Recognizing the severity of his condition and the distance from EMS, officers carried him approximately a quarter-mile to waiting paramedics, who then transported him to the hospital for medical treatment,” police said.
