STOUGHTON (WBSM) — A Fall River man was arrested Wednesday on charges of breaking and entering, identity fraud and credit card fraud related to an April break-in at a business in Stoughton.

According to Stoughton Police Chief Donna McNamara, Mark Smith, 40, of Fall River was arrested Wednesday after an investigation into the April 20 break-in at Roxanne’s Taqueria, located at 95 Sharon Street.

A review of surveillance footage showed a suspect inside the restaurant at 3:32 a.m., and it was determined that a business credit card was stolen during the break-in.

The investigation also revealed that the stolen credit card was used seven times at ATMs and businesses in Fall River, Seekonk and Swansea, as well as East Providence, Rhode Island and Tiverton, RI. According to McNamara, the transactions ranged from $32.33 to $544.87.

McNamara said Smith was identified as the suspect. He was a former employee of the restaurant who had not worked there for years, she said.

On Wednesday, May 7, Stoughton Police detectives executed a search warrant at Smith’s Fall River residence with assistance from Fall River Police. McNamara said police recovered clothing from the residence consistent with those worn during the crimes.

Smith was arrested and charged with breaking and entering during the nighttime with intent to commit a felony, seven counts of identity fraud and seven counts of credit card fraud. He was expected to be arraigned today in Stoughton District Court.
