Second Fall River Shooting Suspect Caught
FALL RIVER — Fall River police say they have caught the second suspect in a shooting that injured a man earlier this month.
Police had been seeking 27-year-old Nestly Lewis in connection to the Nov. 3 shooting on America Street in which a man sustained two gunshot wounds, one to his abdomen and another to his left arm.
The victim was treated at Rhode Island Hospital and later released.
One suspect, 24-year-old Gilberto Velazquez-Arce, was arrested and charged with multiple firearms offenses for his alleged role in the shooting.
Fall River police said they found and caught Lewis on Tuesday, Nov. 29 in Randolph with help from the state police Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section.
Lewis is charged with assault and battery by discharging a firearm, carrying a loaded firearm without a license, and discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling.
Both suspects were identified following an investigation in which police learned that the victim had argued with two men on America Street, leading to a physical altercation with one of the men.
The other man responded by allegedly firing several rounds towards the victim, police said.
