A Fall River man has been sentenced to serve 20 years in state prison after pleading guilty in the brutal rape of a teenage girl. The District Attorney's office says 44 year old Eduardo Rodriguez was sentenced Friday.

Judge Rene Dupuis also sentenced Rodriguez to 35 years supervised probation. He must also register as a sex offender and have no unsupervised contact with minors.

Prosecutors say Rodriguez knew the victim. In March of 2012 he picked her up from school, brought her to his apartment, and forced her to drink vodka and swallow oxycodone pills. He then punched her and raped her.

Rodriguez then drove her to a nearby town, and left her behind a strip mall, where she was discovered unresponsive the next day. Police say the injuries to her face were so severe she required surgery.

D-A Thomas Quinn described the crime as "very violent and egregious," and said "this is a defendant who does not belong on the streets again."
