FALL RIVER (WBSM) — Three men who already had allegedly committed firearms offenses in the past were arrested Sunday night in Fall River and charged with illegally possessing a gun.

According to Fall River Police, members of the department’s Housing Unit were dispatched to the Maple Gardens Housing Development on June 8 at about 10 p.m. for “a report of a possible firearm incident.”

“Call notes indicated that a gunshot had been heard and that several juveniles reported seeing a male with a firearm in the area,” police said.

Known Firearms Offender Spotted

Detectives responded to the scene and according to police recognized Elias Ramos, 18, “walking away from the group and entering the front passenger seat of a gray Honda Accord.”

“Ramos was seen wearing a crossbody bag across his chest before the vehicle quickly left the scene with its taillights off,” police said.

After a brief investigation, detectives stopped the Accord and police said Ramos was no longer wearing the crossbody bag. They said it was instead found in the back seat.

“A pat frisk of the bag revealed the weight and shape consistent with a firearm,” police said. “A Polymer 80 9mm handgun loaded with five live rounds in a six-round magazine was recovered from inside the bag. Also located inside the vehicle was a large 3D printer.”

Three Occupants Arrested

The three occupants of the vehicle – Steven Collazo Martinez, 19; William McCarthy, 21; and Ramos – were arrested and charged with carrying a firearm without a license, carrying a loaded firearm without a license, and possession of an unregistered firearm. Martinez was also charged with a firearm violation with a prior violent or drug offense.

All Three Are Allegedly Repeat Offenders

According to police, all three men “have prior firearm-related charges dating from within the past few years.”

Police also said even though these three individuals were arrested on firearms charges, there was no evidence of a gunshot found at the scene at Maple Gardens.
