Fairhaven Turkey vs. Seagull Standoff Caught on Video – But Who Won?
We all knew it was going to come down to a turf war, and this Fairhaven parking lot proved to be the battleground.
On Sunday, Fairhaven resident Jonathan Comey captured on video what is probably the first battle in what will be a long war between two rival factions that have both been attempting to take over the town.
It’s the turkeys versus the seagulls, and no discarded french fry is safe.
In the video, the turkeys appear to be the aggressors, banding together to approach the seagulls, as the gulls look on in the parking lot between Dollar Tree and Big Lots. The rafter (yes, that’s the name for a flock of turkeys) then moves steadily forward ahead, while the seagulls think the better of it and eventually fly off.
Discretion is the better part of valor, it appears.
The seagulls have long owned that parking lot, frequently picking at dropped food items from McDonald’s and strutting around like they own the place. Yet the balance of power appears to be shifting, as the turkeys have been seen more frequently and are ready to challenge for bird dominance of the parking lot.
Perhaps the authorities will have to get involved – we’re looking at you, Fairhaven Animal Control Officer Terry Cripps – and negotiate a truce between the rival bird gangs. Perhaps give them each their own parking lot; one side gets the Ocean State Job Lot side, the other gets the Staples side.
As of now, though, it looks like the turkeys have claimed victory and probably celebrated their victory by hitting up Dunkin’ like they did on Saturday.
