Fairhaven Photographer Captures Breathtaking Views of a SouthCoast Sunrise

The SouthCoast is home to a beautiful landscape but sometimes a picture doesn’t do the views justice. When the camera is in the hands of a professional, the story plays out a little differently, and Fairhaven resident Jamal Quraiishi has honed his craft of scenic photography to offer stunning views of New Bedford, the SouthCoast, and beyond.

Quraiishi spent a large portion of his life growing up in New Bedford, but before the third grade, he and his family moved a lot, and his mother and father underwent a very emotional divorce.

“They had a very traditional marriage,” recalled Quraiishi, noting that his mother didn’t have many rights in her own home. In the end, the divorce gave his mother freedom like never she never had before and watching his mother flourish later in life gave Quraiishi the motivation to live out his life with passion and meaning.

“She inspired me to do the most with my time,” Quraiishi said.

For five years, he worked as a pharmacy technician, working odd hours. He would often catch the sunrise and began to take photos of them.

Quraiishi has always liked to take photos, but in 2016, he upgraded from his phone’s camera to a real camera and has been taking stunning photographs of the SouthCoast’s landscape ever since.

“I have a bunch of different passions, but this is on has taken over,” he said. “With COVID coming in, it made me reevaluate what I was doing with my life.”

He left pharmaceuticals behind and pursued his passion.

Quraiishi hopes to make photography a full-time gig one day, but as he builds his platform, he will continue to help others see a new perspective of the SouthCoast that will bring peace, calmness, and happiness.
