Exit 5 Off I-195 Eastbound To Close In Fall River

Traffic is about to get interesting in Fall River as the Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) plans to close Exit 5 off I-195 eastbound beginning Sunday, Dec. 21. 

The exit will remain closed through 2015 as Stage 1B of the Route 79/Braga Bridge Improvements Project continues.

But don't fret, you will still be able to get to destinations along the waterfront. Here are the two detours you should keep in mind during your travels.

• To Route 79 northbound: Take Exit 6, turn right onto Hartwell Street, turn right onto 4th Street (which becomes Troy Street), turn left onto Bedford Street (which becomes Central Street), turn right onto North Davol Street and continue straight to Route 79 north.
• To Route 138 southbound: Take Exit 6, turn right onto Hartwell Street, turn right onto 4th Street (which becomes Troy Street), turn left onto Bedford Street (which becomes Central Street and then Water Street), continue straight onto Ponta Delgada Boulevard, cross Columbia Street onto Eagle Street, turn right onto Hope Street and turn left onto Broadway (Route 138 southbound).
