A fire early Saturday morning in Fall River claimed the life of an 87-year old city resident.

According to Firefighters Union President Jason Burns, fire crews responded to a house fire at 11 Palmer Street around 4:45 a.m.

An elderly male was found dead inside the two-story structure. His name has not been released.

Another occupant was able to escape the flames.

A firefighter fell at the scene and was taken to Rhode Island Hospital for treatment. He's expected to be okay.

The cause remains under investigation.
