Boston Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia is recovering from surgery on his thumb.

He underwent a successful procedure Wednesday to repair the ulnar collateral ligament in his left thumb.

The 30-year old Pedroia played through the injury all season after injuring the thumb on a head-first slide into first base on Opening Day against the Yankees.

He still batted .301 with nine home runs, 42 doubles and 84 RBI making the All Star team and winning a Gold Glove on defense.
