Don’t Miss ‘An American in Paris’ at PPAC
AN AMERICAN IN PARIS is the new Tony Award®-winning musical about an American soldier, a mysterious French girl, and an indomitable European city, each yearning for a new beginning in the aftermath of war. Acclaimed director/choreographer and 2015 Tony Award®-winner Christopher Wheeldon brings the magic and romance of Paris into perfect harmony with unforgettable songs from George and Ira Gershwin in the show that earned more awards than any other musical in the 2015 season!
When I found out that 'An American in Paris' was coming to Providence, I knew I had to ask my mom to join me because we already knew a couple of the tunes from the show. 'I Got Rythm' is a classic for anyone who has ever taken dance lessons or ever attended their little sister's tap dance recital. I'm talking to you, Millie!
The first thing worth noting is the use of projections on a screen to build the set. It was so clever how they made the scenery come to life that way, and I don't think I've ever seen anything like it before.
The talent these performers possess is amazing. From dancing to singing to acting, and everything in between, it was just flawless. And they brought so much to the stage about life and what makes it worth living.
If you have the opportunity to see the show before it leaves the Providence Performing Arts Center on Sunday, March 18th, please do so. You will not be disappointed.
