Don't look now, but the Providence Place Apple Cinemas complex is about to get a multi-million-dollar transformation. Talk about polishing the apple! Just days after Showcase Cinemas moved out last year, Apple Cinemas moved in and immediately announced plans for a big redo, and they weren't kidding.

Massive Multi-Million-Dollar Overhaul Underway at Apple Cinemas Providence

WPRI-TV 12 reported the renovations include "new seating, food, drinks and entertainment options."

It's an exciting time at Providence Place, considering not that long ago its critics were writing the mall's obituary. A new partnership consisting of Paolino Properties, headed by former Providence Mayor Joe Paolino, Pyramid Management Group, and DW Partners has big plans for the once-upscale mall that could even include a Costco store.

WJAR-TV 10 reported the project will include "upgraded auditoriums, bowling, and interactive entertainment." The station says, "Every auditorium is expected to receive luxury reclining seats."

High-Tech Screen Formats and Luxury Seating

"The plans also include the company's Apple Cinematic Experience, known as ACX, featuring Dolby Atmos audio and 4K projection," according to WJAR.

I don't know what Dolby Atmos audio is, but I'm excited to find out!

"A dedicated SCREENX auditorium will extend movies onto the side walls, creating a panoramic viewing experience," WPRI reported. The IMAX auditorium has already been upgraded with all of the latest bells and whistles.

Did I mention the renovated Apple Cinemas are also planning to offer self-serve beer and wine, pending licensing approval?

Beyond Movies: Bowling and Interactive Attractions

Interactive archery, slingshot, and drift car-themed activities, and an "immersive bowling environment" are part of Apple's entertainment plans for Providence Place, according to reports.

Before the recent acquisition, approved in August 2026, Providence Place faced a myriad of problems, including bankruptcy, rowdy kids, parking lot issues, and storefront vacancies, many of which have been addressed.
