Many times, when we hear about athletes in the Dartmouth Youth Football League, we immediately think only of football players and the dedicated hard work they are committed to from August through late October or early November.

However, football players only make up half of the equation for SouthCoast Pop Warner programs. There are also the cheerleaders who are not only there for all of the games, but also tirelessly practice for competitions at the end of the season.

There’s a Lot to Cheer About in Dartmouth

A group of hardworking local athletes just made Dartmouth proud on the national stage. The Dartmouth Youth Football League Cheerleading Program traveled to North Carolina to compete at the National Championships. How dedicated were they to winning? Let’s just say they weren’t going to settle for a little getaway to the Carolinas. They were there to win it all.

National Champs

The Varsity Team earned first place, capturing the national championship. Even more impressive is the fact that this is their second straight national title, successfully defending last year’s championship and proving that their success is no fluke.

The team was led by Head Coach Katie Nicolson and Assistant Coach Sheena Sylvia, “whose leadership and dedication have been instrumental in the team’s continued success,” according to Dartmouth Youth Football President Sam Blevines. “They’ve built a winning culture.”

Second in the Nation

The Junior Pee Wee Team also turned in an incredible performance, finishing second in the nation with an outstanding score of 95.3. That was only 0.2 points away from first place. The squad was guided by Head Coach Kasey Martin, Assistant Coaches Jessica Pacheco and Lindsay Ferreira, and Student Demonstrator Adyson Pacheco, who Blevines said played important roles in the team’s development and confidence.

"These athletes have spent countless hours practicing, perfecting routines, and pushing through challenges. Their success on the national stage reflects not just talent, but also commitment, discipline, and heart," Blevines said.

We congratulate all of the Dartmouth cheerleaders, coaches, and families on an incredible achievement. They certainly represented Dartmouth and the entire SouthCoast with pride.

Thanks to artificial intelligence and advances in 3D mapping, Google Maps is slowly rolling out a new feature called immersive view, allowing users to go inside buildings. It looks like Dartmouth Mall is one of the first places in the area to use the new technology, thanks to images from 2017.
