Tom Brady Could Return to the New England Patriots Next Season
New England Patriots football fans have jumped on and off the bandwagon more times than we can count since Tom Brady abandoned ship to guide a Buccaneer sloop to victory in Super Bowl LV against Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs to cap the 2020 NFL season.
Thomas Edward Patrick Brady was 24 years old when he suited up to replace Patriots quarterback Drew Bledsoe, who got hammered by the Jets' Mo Lewis on September 23, 2001, in just the second game of the season.
Brady was a sixth-round draft pick in just his second NFL season at the time.
CBS Boston reported Bledsoe suffered "a concussion, a collapsed lung, and internal bleeding," and that "Bledsoe nearly died from the violent collision."
The unknown, unproven, and unlikely Brady stepped up and guided the Patriots to an 11-3 record and the team's first-ever Super Bowl win that season.
On his way to becoming the greatest NFL player of all time, Brady held the hearts and souls of Patriots fans for 20 seasons – until he left to join the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, leading them to a Super Bowl win his first season with the franchise.
After three seasons with the Bucs, Brady will be a free agent again, and rumors are swirling about where the 45-year-old might hang his cleats should he opt to play a 24th season.
One scenario has Brady resigning with the New England Patriots.
"Don't ever write off the Patriots." wrote The Athletic's Jeff Howe. "The Patriots are slated to have more than $50 million in cap space in 2023, so they can again address their flaws, this time on the heels of a couple of impressive draft classes."
Former Patriot Matt Light also believes a Brady-Patriots reunion is a possibility.
Brady and Patriots Head Coach Bill Belichick are winding down record-setting careers and might fancy a reunion and a storybook ending to their tenure with the organization.
Patriots owner Bob Kraft would like nothing more to see his team tack another championship banner to the walls of Gillette Stadium.
