The New Bedford-based Buzzards Bay Coalition is holding its annual meeting Tuesday night in Falmouth. The Coalition hands out awards every year to those who lend their time and talents to help protect and promote Buzzards Bay.

This year, students and teachers from Old Colony Regional Voc-Tech High School, and Greater New Bedford Voc-Tech were named Volunteers of The Year.

Coalition Director Mark Rasmussen tells WBSM News, the students have been working hard since September, putting their skills to work at the Acushnet Sawmill Property....

Rasmussen says the students have done a tremendous job.  Also being honored as Guardians of The Bay are John Ross of West Falmouth for his leadership in cleaning up nitrogen pollution in West Falmouth Harbor, the Wankinqjuoah Rod and Gun club in Middleboro for its vision in protecting 300 acres of woods and ponds in the Weweantic River Watershed, and Rich Packard of the Mass. D-E-P for his work in reducing the likelihood of oil spills in Buzzards Bay.
