The Tiverton Yacht Club was washed away in the hurricane of 1938 and moved its headquarters into the 100-year-old Abner Tallman House at 54 Riverside Drive in 1956.  That building, a 3-story Victorian mansion, burned to the ground in a fire on June 6, 2003.

According to The Herald News, “Club members promised to rebuild immediately. A 12-year legal battle followed. Permits were issued last summer, and construction began immediately after the club closed on Labor Day of 2015.”

Workers from Pirate’s Cove Marina installed 16 new pilings and are bolting stringers into place for a new dock, which should be finished sometime this week.

Once the school year ends, the yacht club offers swimming lessons in its pool and beach.  There are also sailing lessons at the beach.

Club members who normally have boats on the docks currently have them on moorings in the basin directly in front of the yacht club.  They should be back on the new docks by June 12.

For the first time in 13 years, the club will host many activities both inside and outside for the summer season.  The club and the clubhouse will be up and running within the next few weeks.
