Democratic presidential leader Hillary Clinton is stressing the need to address gun violence following the murders of a Virginia TV reporter and a cameraman on live TV.

During a campaign stop on Wednesday, Clinton said many candidates walk away from the issue because its hard.  But Clinton said she would take the issue on if elected.

Speaking in Iowa, she suggested that universal background checks and wait times could prevent someone from committing shootings. Clinton also said she believes that America is smart enough and compassionate enough to balance legitimate Second Amendment rights with preventative measures.

Clinton expressed her heartache at the deaths of TV reporter Alison Parker and cameraman Adam Ward.

The shooter, Vester Flanagan, died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
