It probably was the worst kept secret at City Hall; the upcoming retirement of City Clerk Rita Arruda.  She made it official on Tuesday, saying she planned to retire at the end of June. Her job is already being advertised on the city's website.

Arruda has worked in the City Clerk's office for more than 40 years, the last 12 years as City Clerk. Arruda says she's a "people person" and will miss the day-to-day contact with her staff.....

The Clerk's retirement has started speculation about who her successor will be.

The City Council will select the next clerk.  One person it won't be is former Ward Five Councilor Jane Gonsalves. She told WBSM on Monday she was not interested in the position and would not be applying.
