Celebrating the Arts in Fall River [TOWNSQUARE SUNDAY]
The City of Fall River is celebrating the Arts next week. The Third Annual Fall River Fabric Arts Festival is scheduled for May 12, 13 and 14 in the Spindle City.
Organizers say the Fabric Arts Festival is a celebration of public art, music, community and the City of Fall River. Festival founder Michael Benevides and artist Tyler Inman of Smokestack Studios joined Townsquare Sunday to preview the event, which this year is entitled "Where We Meet."
Benevides said the idea for a festival came to him after visiting similar events in the Azores. He said the festival has something for everyone, and many might be surprised by what's being created in Fall River.
"The first time I walked into Smokestack Studios I was blown away by the quality of work that they do," Benevides said. "We're fortunate to have these studios here, and this is a good opportunity for people to see the quality of work happening here."
Attractions include an open-air museum featuring public art exhibits along the Quequechan River Rail Trail, open studios at multiple locations featuring the work of more than two dozen artists, a Table for Many which is a pop-up restaurant featuring meals created by artists and chefs, and numerous concerts and performances, many of which are free to the public. A complete schedule can be found at fabricfallriver.com.
