A local carpenters union contnues to picket a construction site behind the Hawthorne Medical Associates complex in North Dartmouth.

The union is protesting what they say are subpar wages and benefits being paid by a sub-contractor on site, Commercial Drywall and Construction in New Bedford.

Ron Rhemeau of the Carpenters Union tells WBSM News, even though the job is now underway, the union will continue to protest....

Rhemeau says the union attempted to resolve the issue privately with Summit Smith Healthcare, the site developer, but could not reach an agreement.

He says the sub-contractor, is paying carpenters about half of what union carpenters currently earn.
